James Hita

James became actively involved in the Heart work at the age of 13. Born and raised in Glen Innes he has would tag along to community activities with his mum. James expressed and acknowledged his mum’s passion and love for helping people, which nurtured his own love and passion for community work and support.

James is very much involved with pretty much every organisation in Tamaki such as Te Waipuna Puawai, Heart Movement, TRC, Flipping EAST, Rākau Tautoko to mention a few. He understands the challenges that come along with community work, like connecting people with movements like HEART and making sure that courses and trainings stay relevant to the community.

James says it is important to “Be with the people, know your community and be part of the solution.”

James loves his journey with HEART. He is a HEART Champion and is always looking for ways to advocate for the HEART Movement and spread the message about healthy relationships.
