Torino Reserve Community BBQ

Blessings of Golden Sunshine and Happy Children

Saturday 10th of March the Torino Reserve was buzzing with families from the neighbouring streets and as far as Rowena and Torrington Crescents.

Tara Moala, HEART Community Change agent, brought this event to her neighbourhood. The Torino Reserve BBQ was led by local community members and they all did the setup, running of the BBQ and promotion. Special thanks to Brooke McCarthy, members of Tāmaki Resident Network and the awesome young people that helped to spread the word and run the kids activities.

We couldn’t have asked for a better day, with fun games for the children, adults talking and sharing conversations around topics of building healthy relationships, exchanging of homegrown produce and how to recycle and reuse at home.

Manu, a new resident to Torino said, “what a marvellous job you are doing. Good to know there are community movements such as HEART talking about healthy relationships in the homes.” He strongly voiced his opinion that: we need to talk to the Dads. He says, “If the dads are not in the right mind space, then the home will not be in the right space. It will be one big mess”

What a great start to the year building happy and healthy relationships with those around in a collaborative and sharing manner.
