Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Training

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) aims to help people recognise and change destructive thought patterns that have a negative influence on behaviour and emotions. What we think and what we do, influences how we feel.

CBT is a powerful tool that is effective in helping people with depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and even phobias among other mental conditions. Not only does it help with these conditions, but CBT has been found to help people cope with serious illnesses, divorce/break-ups, grief, and even insomnia. CBT teaches us to practice new ways of thinking. As people can change their thinking, change their actions, and change their lives.

On the 2nd of June, we had over 20 community members and professionals join us at Faith Family Centre for Dr. Peter Thorburn’s CBT Training session. We learnt about the many advantages of implementing CBT strategies in our everyday lives. Which aligns perfectly with building and maintaining healthy relationships because our relationship with our own behaviours and emotions has a huge effect on how we interact with whānau, friends, and our community.
