Arohanui Hui
In February HEART supported the Hubzero Arohanui Hui at Te Oro. The kaupapa was self-care that didn’t cost the earth - how we can take care of ourselves whilst being kaitiaki to Papatuanuku.
There was a great turnout of local women and the atmosphere was relaxing. Jasmine from HubZero showed us how to make a pink clay mask made from clay powder, water, and oil that many of us tested on our own skin. There were also eco-friendly craft activities set up for anyone who wanted to create and lots of great well-being resources from the Mental Health Foundation NZ provided.
Ren from The HEART Movement spoke about love languages, what they are and what hers are. This prompted others to share their love languages and we talked about other love languages from different cultures.
The hui ended by talking about our actions that include care for Papatuanuku. Op shopping was a popular action - (we do have great op shops in Tāmaki!), as well as composting, gardening, making paintbrushes from excess flax from weaving, making our own cleaning products, and using zero waste menstrual wear. It was a great reminder that healthy relationships are not limited to people. Our relationship with nature can be beneficial to our well-being, which in turn can have a positive effect on our relationships with people.
Ko au te awa, ko te awa ko au — I am the river and the river is me.
