Anger Management with Peter Thorburn
There are positive and negative ways to look at anger. Out of frustration and anger, someone can move mountains and overcome insurmountable odds. When under control, anger can focus and guide someone through a difficult time. It’s how we deal with it when it’s out of control where it can cause harm to our loved ones, and ourselves. That’s when anger becomes a problem.
Recently, we put it out to the community and asked, “What trainings would you like to see?” Our Men’s Koru Group asked if we could provide an Anger Management training, and Peter Thorburn was more than happy to oblige. On the 6th of April, we had about 18 community members/professionals present for this workshop where Peter walked us through the positives and negatives of anger. Various tips and tricks we could use to help identify the warning signs before our anger goes out of control, and what causes feelings of anger and how we can minimize it.
Over lockdown, it was very easy to feel overwhelmed when you’re confined to the same space, with the same people, isolated from the world. Unfortunately, we tend to take our frustrations out on those closest to us. Through various discussions since this session, those part of the Men’s Koru Group benefitted from attending as it has helped enhance their own personal relationships at home, enabling them to find other ways to vent their own anger and frustrations and better communicate their feelings.
